AI Summit

On September 9, 2024, Péter Balogh gave a presentation at the AI Summit, representing Óbuda University, titled “Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability.” In his presentation, he discussed how artificial intelligence (AI) can support sustainable development, with a particular focus on energy efficiency, optimizing transportation, waste management, food production, and water management. He pointed out that AI technologies, such as smart home systems and autonomous vehicles, contribute to more efficient energy use and reduce harmful emissions.

During the presentation, he emphasized how AI can improve recycling processes and increase the efficiency of food production through precision agriculture. He also highlighted AI’s role in optimizing water usage, which is crucial in the era of climate change. However, he also drew attention to the fact that AI has a significant ecological footprint, especially in the case of high-performance models, making the use of renewable energy sources and more efficient algorithms essential.

Péter Balogh’s presentation showcased the synergies between AI and sustainability while also highlighting the need to carefully consider energy resource management in future AI development and operations.
