Aim of the course

The aim of the course is to train business IT specialists who can understand complex business processes, identify problems and develop solutions. They are able to identify the needs of IT systems supporting value-creating processes, to develop and manage the applications, and to carry out and coordinate research and development tasks. They are prepared to pursue their studies at doctoral level.

The technical competences to be acquired

a) knowledge

Their English language skills will be sufficient for the level of training, knowledge of English-language literature, understanding and processing of professional texts, and the performance of the professional tasks for which you are qualified, as well as for continuing professional development.

Knowledge and understanding of the company’s activity system, the concepts of value chain, supply chain, the principles of process-oriented corporate management, the process of corporate strategy making.

Knowledge and understanding of the relationships between business functions, including key concepts and procedures related to marketing, finance and accounting, human resource management, innovation management and value creation process management.

Have a detailed knowledge of information systems, understanding of architecture development principles and methods.

Familiar with the principles and methods of business, information and data architecture, the main context of implementation and change management.

Understand the relationship between information and business architecture and map business needs to IT requirements.

Know the basic characteristics of the different layers of the information architecture (transaction processing, operational support, decision support, teamwork, workflow) and the interrelationships between them.

Detailed knowledge of all areas of information management, including IT strategy, process management, systems development, knowledge management, IT service management, project management, risk management, performance management, IT asset management, IT security and IT audit.

A comprehensive knowledge of the regulatory issues and problems of the information society, including the interpretation of specific areas (media, telecommunications, economics) and the legal aspects of information technology.

Familiar with global trends in IT disciplines, their disciplinary boundaries, their role in IT and societal innovation and the new requirements they bring.

Know the methods, procedures and constraints for solving problems and tasks related to the application domains.

Knowledge and understanding of the concepts and contexts of multivariate statistics and computer science, their applications and limitations.

b) skills

Designs and manages the development of IT applications and methods to solve real business and organisational problems.

Ability to understand and analyse business processes, identify software applications to support implementation, and match business and organisational needs.

Ability to apply system development principles and methods, use development tools (business modelling and computer-aided development tools), and manage the implementation of applications for development.

Ability to design, create and manage databases.

Ability to adapt business applications, initiate organisational changes necessary for the implementation of IT applications, assess implementation risks and plan measures to avoid them, and collaborate in their implementation.

Ability to manage the IT unit of the organisation, outsourcing IT tasks to an external service provider as required.

Ability to apply familiar methods to manage operational risks.

Ability to design and manage development projects and explore different organisational and organisational solutions to IT challenges.

In cooperation with the IT auditor, it can provide the necessary conditions and controls for the procedures.

Ability to identify and communicate business opportunities in IT applications.

Criteria requirements

Internship

Professional practice of at least 6 weeks (containing 240 work hours).

Foreign language literacy requirements

Conditions to issue the degree:

To receive the master’s degree it is required to possess a state-approved, complex, English language certificate of at least intermediate (B2) level; or a state-approved, complex language certificate of at least intermediate (B2) level of any other living language in which the discipline has scientific literature plus a state-approved, complex, English language certificate of basic (B1) level. The student should have a command of the professional language too.

Verification of knowledge

a) during the semester with written or oral presentation, written test, or assessing home assignment (plan, measurement minutes etc.), with practical mark or signature;
b) passing a pre-examination during the semester;
c) passing an exam or a comprehensive exam in the exam period and
d) the final exam.

Conditions to take the final exam

a) obtaining the final certificate;
b) thesis approved by a reviewer.

The final certificate is a prerequisite of the admission to the final examination. The final certificate is issued to students, who have fulfilled all educational requirements specified in the curriculum – except for the thesis submission – and obtained the necessary amount of credits.

Components of the final exam

The final exam comprises of the defence of the thesis and oral exams specified in the curriculum (with preparation times at least 20 minutes per subject), which have to be taken the same day.

Result of the final examination (F)

The overall result of the final examination is the average of grades obtained for the thesis and the subjects of the oral part of the final exam:

F =(Th+ S1+S2+…+Sm)/(1+m).

Conditions to issue the degree

a) successful final exams;
b) a complex language examination at level B2 or above in any foreign language.
